Transforming the Veev Digital Home into a Welcoming Fortress
Having privacy at home is crucial for our mental well-being. Home should be our safe haven, a place to express ourselves, do what we love, and escape from the outside world.
Recognizing this, Veev has gone above and beyond to make its smart homes both secure and private. Temy, a software development vendor responsible for technical implementation, helped bring Veev’s vision to life.

How the Veev Digital Home Guards Homeowners’ Privacy
With the Veev Digital Home, your home truly becomes your castle. Key features like the smart door lock, doorbell, and shades are designed with the residents’ privacy in mind.
Smart door lock
The Veev smart door lock allows homeowners to lock and unlock doors remotely using a smartphone app, touch panels in each room, or even voice commands. This provides greater control over who enters your home and when. The smart lock seamlessly integrates with other security features of the Veev Digital Home, such as the doorbell camera, for a robust home security solution.
Smart doorbell
Veev’s smart doorbell comes with high-quality cameras, letting you see and talk to visitors remotely without having to physically open the door. The doorbell also has a motion detector which can send alerts to your smartphone, so you can discreetly monitor activity around your home, no matter where you are.
Smart window shades
Homeowners can open, close, or adjust smart window shades and blinds remotely. These smart shades can also be programmed to automatically open and close at specific times or based on events like the time of day or the homeowner’s presence, ensuring privacy without manual effort. By integrating these smart home features, the Veev Digital Home gives owners greater control over access, monitoring, and privacy in their living space.
The Technical Side
The lock sensor determines whether the front door is locked or unlocked. The smart lock communicates with the local server using ArtNET DMX, while the sensors transmit lock data over the Z-Wave protocol via the Habitat hub.
Meanwhile, the doorbell’s logic is based on DoorBird, a third-party doorbell solution integrated into the VeeV system.
Finally, the shades control is powered by smart motors connected to the server in two ways:
via ArtNET DMX controllers
via Shade Store Wi-Fi Bridge, a motorized window treatment solution embedded into the Veev system

Elusive Door Lock Status, Third-Party Integrations, and Other Implementation Challenges
Implementing these smart features came with its share of challenges.
Door lock
One major challenge we faced was the door lock’s dual functionality, allowing homeowners to operate it both physically and remotely. If a user opened or closed the door manually, the server wouldn’t receive any data about the door lock’s status. To fix this, we had to develop a logic system to effectively bridge this gap and ensure seamless communication between the physical lock and the digital interface.
Doorbell
We didn’t build the doorbell functionality from the ground up. Instead, we integrated with DoorBird, a smart doorbell solution that comes with its own app. However, adding another app would have complicated the Veev Digital Home user flow. So, we decided to use the DoorBird API and set up an EC2 instance in AWS for audio and video streaming. This way, we could smoothly feed the DoorBird data into the Veev system. Our team then focused on developing additional doorbell features, such as notifications for when someone approached.
Window shades
The biggest challenge was creating a logic system to visualize to what degree the shades were open or closed. Introducing smart window treatment solutions, like the Shades Store Wi-Fi Bridge, helped solve this problem. Another obstacle was that we couldn’t test the shades on-site, which meant we had to work closely with the client’s team in Israel to make sure everything was set up correctly.
Outcomes
The smart locks, doorbells, and window shades in the Veev Digital Home follow advanced logic. However, thanks to our technical expertise and teamwork, we’ve developed a user-friendly solution that turns your home into a secure and welcoming fortress with just a few taps. These privacy features are just one part of the Veev Digital Home. If you’re interested in exploring every component of the system, we invite you to read other posts in the Veev series:
